The adoption of the euro is not just a currency change, but a strategic opportunity to increase the competitiveness and investment attractiveness of Bulgaria. This was stated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Angelova, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association and Deputy Chairperson of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) during the National Discussion "The Effect of the Eurozone. The Experience of Member States", organized by the Council. The event focused on the key economic and social aspects related to Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Angelova presented data from a study by BICA, according to which the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria will have a positive impact on every second company. According to her, by joining the eurozone, Bulgaria will eliminate transaction costs, gain access to cheaper financing, improve the business environment and reduce the currency risk for companies. The expected effect on the national economy from the saved costs from currency conversion alone exceeds 1 billion leva per year. Joining the eurozone will also give our country the right to participate in decision-making processes, which will strengthen its political weight within the European Union.
"The path to the euro is not just a long-standing political line and following certain causes and consequences, of achieving a high degree of convergence, but is a matter of national prestige. This information campaign will not be politically motivated. It will be information from reliable sources, so as to address both fears and concerns, but also to enable society to make its own clear forecasts in order to have a predictable market environment in which there will be positive effects and benefits from the euro, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that state authorities are on the ground, monitoring the dynamics of prices and will seek answers to their unjustified increase in some specific goods.
The event brought together representatives of institutions, employers' and trade union organizations, the civil sector and international experts.
