Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Angelova, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA) and Deputy Chairperson of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) moderated the third information meeting of the National Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria. The event was held in Plovdiv and brought together representatives of institutions, local authorities, businesses and citizens.
“The aim of this meeting is to answer all questions and not leave any unanswered. It is important that we have joined hands – the representatives of state and local institutions, the executive branch and civil society. Reliable information is the only thing that can overcome the disinformation, rumors and dogmas that exist,” said the Deputy Chairperson of the ESC Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Angelova.
Such information events are a conversation about how to make the process smoother and more problem-free, commented Deputy Minister of Finance Metodi Metodiev.
“Our membership in the eurozone is an opportunity and a prerequisite for better, faster and more catch-up growth. All the efforts of the people in this room have their own measure of success – support for eurozone membership continues to grow, and with the greater awareness of the people, which means that we are on the right track,” said Deputy Minister Metodiev.
“The independence of the central bank is a guarantee for the stability of economic policies and the development of the economy in the country – be it before or after the adoption of the euro. It is important for the BNB to ensure that every citizen, every company, will have the necessary volume of banknotes and coins. With regard to banks, together with the CPC, we will ensure that interest rates and fees under contracts concluded before the adoption of the euro do not change. We are working together with the Ministry of Interior to prevent the distribution of counterfeit banknotes,” said Marinela Petrova, advisor to the Governor of the BNB.
The National Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria aims to provide businesses and society with clear and reliable information about the key stages and deadlines for the introduction of the euro. Leading institutions – the Ministry of Finance, the Bulgarian National Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Consumer Protection Commission, the National Revenue Agency, the Financial Supervision Commission, the National Social Insurance Institute, etc. – are participating with their experts, who will be available for questions and discussions.
Partners in the initiative are the Economic and Social Council, the National Association of Municipalities, employers' and trade union organizations, the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, etc.
Meetings of the campaign will be held in all regional cities in the country, with the aim of providing reliable information and answering all questions related to the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
