The Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations (AОBE) and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria signed a Memorandum of Cooperation related to the preparation for the introduction of the euro and preventing unjustified increases in the prices of goods and services. The document envisages strengthening public confidence in the smooth, fair and predictable transition to the single European currency and encouraging the implementation of good practices by businesses. The emphasis is on consumer protection, providing clear and timely information, as well as preventing unfair commercial practices and price speculation. “This is the format in which the Bulgarian economy and government, with the help of trade unions and employers, build a sustainable and predictable environment for doing business, for increasing the well-being of the people and for protecting the socio-economic rights of people. This is also the main goal that we all strive for, I believe united, with the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. The goal is not only deeper integration into the economic and institutional framework of the EU, the goal of these specific working relationships is an effective, smooth and problem-free introduction of the euro for consumers and economic operators in the country,” said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. The nationally representative employers’ organizations and the government undertake to exchange information, provide expert support and assist in the organizational and technical preparation of the transition. Work will also be done to strengthen trust in institutions and business, as well as to jointly overcome possible practical challenges during the process. AOBR will continue to be an active partner of the government in the process of the country's accession to the eurozone. The association has undertaken to provide all knowledge and information regarding economic operators in the introduction of the euro in the clearest and most correct way possible to all producers, processors, traders and self-employed persons. AOBE added that employer organizations are fully prepared and willing to present not just the benefits, but the truth about the euro.
