Bulgarian Mechanical Engineering Between Tradition, Innovation and New Challenges

The Bulgarian Branch Chamber – Mechanical Engineering (BBCME), a member of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA), marked 55 years since the establishment of Mechanical Engineer’s Day in Bulgaria and 35 years since the founding of the Chamber.

The event was attended by BICA Chairman Rumen Radev, Chairman of BICA’s General Assembly Vasil Velev, as well as Eng. Violin Nenov, Chairman of BBCME and member of BICA’s National Council.

BICA Chairman Rumen Radev delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of the Association to the leadership and members of BBCME and to all those working in the sector.

“Mechanical engineering is among the sectors of key importance for the development and competitiveness of Bulgarian industry. It combines tradition and engineering expertise with a continuous drive for technological renewal, automation and the implementation of innovations. Behind its achievements stand generations of engineers, specialists, entrepreneurs and workers whose professionalism deserves the highest recognition,” Rumen Radev emphasized.

He also highlighted BBCME’s 35-year contribution to the development of the sector and the active partnership between the Chamber and BICA.

“We particularly value the active partnership between BBCME and BICA and our joint efforts to improve the business environment, develop human capital and establish Bulgarian industry as modern, highly productive and competitive.”

Rumen Radev further noted that, in the context of technological transformation, Bulgarian mechanical engineering has every reason to continue being one of the drivers of the country’s economic growth and industrial development.

As part of the event, Chairman of BICA’s General Assembly Vasil Velev took part in the discussion panel “Challenges and Competitiveness of Bulgarian Mechanical Engineering”.

Commenting on the results of a survey presented among representatives of the sector, he focused on the shortage of qualified personnel, energy prices, the need for investment and the competitiveness of Bulgarian industry.

“New value is created only in production. And within production, mechanical engineering holds a central place,” Vasil Velev stated.

He paid particular attention to the issue of human resources and stressed that, regardless of the development of automation and new technologies, “it cannot be done without people”. Velev also commented on the impact of high energy costs on competitiveness and the need for policies encouraging investment in industry.

Awards for contributions to the development of mechanical engineering were also presented as part of the anniversary event. Eng. Violin Nenov, Chairman of BBCME and member of BICA’s National Council, presented Vasil Velev with the award in the category “For Overall Contribution to Mechanical Engineering”.

Eng. Violin Nenov opened the anniversary event by reviewing the path travelled by the Bulgarian Branch Chamber – Mechanical Engineering over its 35-year history and the achievements made during this period. In his remarks, he also focused on the future of the sector, the challenges facing Bulgarian mechanical engineering and the need for the experience accumulated over the years to serve as a foundation for its further development.

In the context of the two anniversaries, Nenov emphasized the importance of continuity and the efforts of the people and enterprises behind the development of the sector.

BICA congratulates the Bulgarian Branch Chamber – Mechanical Engineering, its members and everyone working in the sector on the occasion of the two anniversaries.
